Each month the Employment Development Department releases revised and preliminary civilian labor force, unemployment rates, and industry employment by geography for California, metropolitan areas, counties, and sub-county areas.     This report, released in March 2013, provides an overview of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Alternative Measures of Labor Underutilization. Labor underutilization rates were analyzed during California’s latest business cycle expansion and contractions periods to highlight the trends associated with this dataset.

  • Profile of California's Long-Term Unemployed
    This report, released in January 2012, highlights how the recent recession has affected long-term unemployment in California. The report examines causes of the increase, as well as challenges this phenomenon present to the state.

  • Self-Employment in California, 2009
    This is a periodic report detailing the self-employed component of the State’s labor force.

  • Profile of California's Population of Veterans
    This report describes the demographic characteristics of California Veterans in 2009, with emphasis on how these characteristics vary with time of service. A comparison of 2010 unemployment and labor force participation rates among Veterans and Non-Veterans is also provided.
