License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Medical Laboratory Technician
Application Fee: $230.00
Renewal Fee: $230.00 + $16 CE fee
Renewal: 24 units/hours of Continuing Education (CE) every 2 years
Requirements: Official transcript with Associate Degree in Science at least 60 semester units course work shall include 6 semester units of chemistry and 6 semester units in biology. 26 weeks of Clinical training in an approved MLT training program or NACCLS program. 3 years on the job practical experience within the previous 5 years in a clinical lab outside California, California Physician office laboratory and laboratory owned and operated by the United States of America as MLT.
Examination: Applicants must refer to the LFS website for the list of approved certifying organization examinations for each license category.
Average Time to Process Application: 150 days. Incomplete application packages may be abandoned 150 days after registration.

Scope of Practice: Perform tests classified as waived and moderate complexity in hematology,chemistry, micro and immunology performed phlebotomy.
