Employment Projections

Employment Projections estimate the changes in industry and occupational employment over time resulting from industry growth, technological change, and other factors. California produces long-term (10 year) projections of employment every 2 years for the State and local areas. Statewide short-term (2 year) projections are revised annually.

The files below contain all of the data for a single area. To extract data for selected occupations or areas, use the Occupational Projections Data Search Tool.
Note: California Community Colleges should go to Job Outlook for Occupational Education Programs for occupational projections by Taxonomy of Programs or Classification of Instructional Programs code.

The Occupations in Demand webpage contains a comprehensive list of "occupations with the most job openings" and "fastest growing" occupations by area. "Occupations with the Most Job Openings" is a list of jobs with the largest number of expected job openings from new jobs and to replace workers leaving an occupation. "Fastest Growing Occupations" is the list of jobs with the largest percent change.

The Top 100 fastest growing occupations list contains the top 100 fastest growing occupations in California ranked by projected growth.

The Job Outlook for California Community College Educational Programs provides community colleges with the information they need to document the job outlook for enrollees in various community college occupational education programs. This application provides a link between the Taxonomy of Programs (TOP) or the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) to the statewide and local area occupational projections developed by the Employment Development Department (EDD). It was built in cooperation with the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO).
