About this area:
Tuolumne lies on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, bordered on the north by Calaveras and Alpine, on the east by Mono County, on the south by Mariposa County, and on the west by Stanislaus County. Three main highways traverse the county: State routes 49, 108, and 120. Transportation within the county is provided by rail (freight only), several trucking firms, a county-owned airport, and bus services.
