License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Geologist-In-Training

Examination Requirements: National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination (4-hours).

Background Check: Completing a background check is required for licensure. All applicants are required to submit fingerprints prior to sitting for examination. Certification: Geologist-In-Training (GIT)

Examination Frequency: Semi-Annual (spring and fall). For details and final filing dates, please refer to the Board’s website at: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/exam_schedule.shtml.

Exam Locations: Alternating between Northern and Southern California. For more information, please refer to the examination schedule on the Board’s website at: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/exam_schedule.shtml.

Education Requirement: Graduation from a college or university with a major in geological sciences or any other discipline that, in the opinion of the Board, is relevant to geology. The exam may be taken before graduation, but the GIT certificate will not be awarded until proof of graduation is submitted.

Average Time to Process Application: Three (3) months.

Renewal: None.
