Persons operating potable water treatment facilities or making decisions in a potable water distribution system must be certified.
Occupations To Which This License Applies:
Water treatment and water distribution operators employed by community or nontransient-noncommunity water systems.
Fees: The fee varies with the level of certification.

D1/T1: $50; $70; $70
D2/T2: $65; $80; $80
D3/T3: $100; $120; $120
D4/T4: $130; $140; $140
D5/T5: $155; $140; $140
Examination Frequency: Exams are given twice yearly for distribution and treatment certification.
Exam Locations: Eureka, Fresno, Los Angeles, Redding, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Jose, Vallejo, Santa Barbara.
Experience Requirement: Varies with certification level. Contact the Operator Certification unit or review the Operator Certification Regulations for specific information. Applicant must meet exam requirements, pass exam, and then meet certification requirements.
Average Time to Process Application: Three months.
Renewal Period: Three years.
