California California became the 31st state admitted into the Union on September 9, 1850. The third-largest state in land area, California covers almost 159,000 square miles, including over 1,200 miles of Pacific coastline. Currently, California has the fifth-largest economy in the world, and is the nation’s number one exporting state.
Monterey County Monterey County is situated along almost 100 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline. It is bordered on the inland sides by Santa Cruz County to the north, San Benito, Fresno, and Kings counties to the east, and San Luis Obispo County to the south. The county is comprised of two distinct sub-regions: the Monterey Peninsula, and the Salinas River Valley, which runs almost the entire length of the county.
Santa Cruz County Santa Cruz is located along the north side of Monterey Bay on the central coast of California. Surrounding counties include San Mateo to the north, Santa Clara to the east, and Monterey to the south. Mild weather, natural beauty, a major university, and proximity to the Silicon Valley contribute to the economic opportunities as well as the quality of life in the county. With an abundance of coastline, accessible beaches, and nearby mountains, Santa Cruz County is a popular vacation and recreation area.
