Fees—
Application for Eligibility Evaluation: $100;
National Council of Registration Boards' (NCARB) Architect Registration Examination (ARE): $210–$310 per division - 7 divisions;
NCARB ARE Rescheduling: $60–$80;
California Supplemental Examination (CSE): $100;
License: $300 every 2 years.

Examination Frequency—
ARE: By computer, Monday–Saturday at most locations
CSE: By computer, Monday–Saturday, excluding holidays

Exam Locations—
ARE: Approximately 20 locations throughout California, as well as locations across U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, and Canada
CSE: 17 locations in California and 22 locations across U.S.

Experience Requirements—
ARE: 5 years of education equivalents and/or work experience. Work experience must be under the direct supervision of architect.
CSE: 5 years of education equivalents and 3 years architectural practice experience equivalents for 8 years total experience equivalents as evaluated by Board. Completion of NCARB ARE and Intern Development Program required.

Licensure—
Successful completion of CSE and its preceding requirements

Average Time to Process Application: 1 month for Application for Eligibility Evaluation

Renewal Period: Biennial-odd years

Special License Requirements: Compliance with local license requirements and U.S. and state tax requirements. SSN or ITIN is required.
